Velvet Machine

What it does

An AUv3 effect that blurs and stretches audio into long atmospheric textures rather than modelling a room. One row carries duration, pre-delay, stereo width, density, saturation, high and low pass filters and the wet mix, with an envelope beneath that is redrawn by dragging and takes up to four points added by double tap. Presets run from plain reverbs to ambient washes, orchestral blurs and long vocal spaces, and edits save to user slots. Tails can run long enough to still be ringing after the source has stopped.

In the demo

Jade runs the presets on a bare acoustic guitar track in GarageBand, then builds an AUM chain with a live SM58 through FourPockets Soloist, Velvet Machine last, knocks on the mic body for a low hum, feeds GeoShred cello and violins through it, and ends on one of her own tracks in a file player.

Worth knowing

It is a plugin, so it needs a host, and Jade works it entirely inside GarageBand and AUM. It processes whatever is already playing rather than making a sound of its own, so what comes back depends on the source.
