Transfigure

What it does

A sound redesign effect for iPad, standalone and as an AUv3. It works off the transients in whatever is fed to it, with threshold, decay and delay controls deciding which ones register. Two engines sit behind a large XY pad. The spectral engine freezes bands, delays them independently, transposes and harmonizes them, and takes a drawable mask that carves the spectrum. The resynthesis engine reads pitches out of the input and rebuilds them from 124 oscillators through scales, chords and voicings. Four envelopes and a randomizer modulate almost any control, and two slots add delay, phaser, filter, reverb, capture and looper.

In the demo

Jade runs it over a drum pattern from Axon, setting the threshold so the kick and snare register separately, then builds freezes, masks and envelopes on single bands. She moves on to Playbeat 4 with Undersong and to piano, and plays the glitch, spectral and resynthesis preset banks.

Worth knowing

Jade hits bugs with a Magic Keyboard mouse, where holding a dial will not open its modulation menu, and the spectral readout blanks at times. The desktop build is a separate $129 purchase from the developer’s site.
