What it does
A tape channel in four blocks. Saturation picks between tape, digital, rectify, half rectify and smooth. A response section loads impulses taken from cassettes and micro cassettes and has its own high and low pass filters. A noise section chooses which cassette supplies the hiss, with a gain and filters of its own. The bottom strip adds wow, flutter and delay, each with a depth control. The output carries auto gain and a panic button, and presets are filed under delays, modulation, saturation, mix bus, miscellaneous and plain cassette types.
In the demo
Jade runs it in AUM over one of her own instrumentals and walks the preset categories, then moves it onto a live vocal behind Black Hole, onto the Ravenscroft piano where she rides the noise gain and filters to push it into the distance, and finally across a GarageBand lo-fi sketch track by track.
Worth knowing
Jade warns that switching auto gain off mid playback got dangerously loud, which is what the panic button next to the output is for. Cassette Tape One and Cassette Tape Two cover a narrower slice of the same ground, and she says both are free.
