Sublation

What it does

A sound and preset expansion for AudioModern’s Playbeat 4, the pattern-generating drum machine, with sound design by KITSUNE. It leans on glitch minimalism, ambient texture and experimental electronic percussion, giving Playbeat’s generator fragmented, shifting grooves to work from instead of straight loops. It arrives as one SB pack file.

In the demo

Jade runs Playbeat 4 as an AUv3 in AUM, imports the pack from an external drive because it had not yet appeared in the in-app store, then plays every preset twice through. She closes in the samples browser, where the pack’s individual hits can be dragged into your own kits, and points to the generate button covered in her Playbeat 4 tutorial.

Worth knowing

It needs Playbeat 4, free on iPad with a $29.99 unlock and $89 on desktop. The presets are all on the abstract, glitchy side, so anyone after conventional drum kits will want a different expansion.
