Drill Yard

What it does

A free Apple sound pack for GarageBand and for Logic Pro on iPad, built around UK and New York drill. It holds more than 400 Apple Loops, four Drum Machine Designer kits, 26 instrument patches and two Live Loops grids, about 431 MB in Logic Pro, covering sliding 808s, lo-fi and reverse piano lines, pads, basslines, vocal chops and guitar parts. Loops transpose to the project key, and the MIDI loops are marked by colour.

In the demo

Jade installs it from GarageBand’s sound library, then moves to Logic Pro for iPad for the detail. She builds projects from both Live Loops grids, opens the pack browser to the pads, bells, bongos, plucks, claps and kits, then opens a Weathered Hum patch to show it is an Alchemy instrument rather than a fixed sound. She closes in the loop browser on vocal chops, guitars and drums.

Worth knowing

Free in GarageBand, while the Logic Pro route needs that subscription. The Live Loops grids arrive as new projects, so they pile up until deleted. The loops are cleared for commercial releases.
