What it does
A music theory workstation and AUv3 MIDI plugin for iPad that detects chords from MIDI or audio, offers over 1,000 chord sets, and builds progressions with voice leading, substitutions and inversions. Scenes, a timeline, Motions and a piano roll carry an idea to a sketch. It installs three ways: as an instrument, as Scaler 3 Control for hosts like GarageBand, and as Scaler 3 audio, which reads chords off a guitar or a track.
In the demo
A standalone episode builds progressions from chord sets, locks chords to keyboard keys, and plays them through the onboard instruments and hosted AUv3s. The 3.3 update episode covers the Detect panel, Multi-Bind, lane slicing and new bass motions. A third works in Logic, routing arrange tracks over sixteen MIDI channels and driving SWAM strings from divisi lanes.
Worth knowing
Standalone and AUv3 are one purchase, not two apps. Loaded as an AUv3 it cannot host other AUv3s, because iOS will not nest them, so only the host’s instruments are available; standalone it can. The main track must stay bound for the other lanes to follow. Jade hit crashes while dragging captured MIDI, so save often.
