Octachron

What it does

An eight track MIDI sequencer aimed at drums, running standalone or as an AUv3. It sends notes rather than sound, so it drives a drum app, a synth or outboard gear. Mapping presets for specific drum apps arrive with lanes named and on the right notes, and a shift view swaps those names for note numbers. Patterns take a set step count, with a clock divider, swing and a swing grid that pulls the feel off centre. Each lane carries density, randomness and trigger controls, plus per-step velocity, step repeats, probability and row length. CC lanes modulate the target app’s own parameters, a generate scale page turns it melodic, and patterns chain in song mode.

In the demo

Jade maps it to DigiStix and has a beat running in seconds, then disables the internal sequencers in Pure Acid and SDS so it can drive their drums instead. She randomizes lanes, chains patterns in song mode, sets uneven row lengths, then points it at a piano and an external MicroFreak.

Worth knowing

It makes no sound of its own. Jade runs it on iPad and shows the Mac version, covered by the same purchase.
