Media Assistant

What it does

A file manager that adds media tools to every long press: edit audio, convert or extract it, join audio and video. It also holds a media player, an ad-blocking web browser, a Wi-Fi drive and an iCloud folder that syncs to the Mac build. The browser runs as an AUv3 or Inter-App Audio plugin, so a stream can be recorded into a DAW.

In the demo

Jade converts files, extracts audio from video, samples freesound.org and YouTube through the browser, and buses the plugin into Logic and GarageBand to record what it streams. The audio editor kept crashing with her interface plugged in, a bug she says was fixed days later. Two follow-up episodes cover the paid modules: the audio tagger sorting 1,800 samples into categories, and the vocal remover set against Moises.

Worth knowing

Every module is bought separately, so what you pay depends on which parts you want. The vocal remover is $5.99 and needs the basic audio editor alongside it, the audio tagger is $10, and the AUv3 unlock and the converter and joiner are priced separately again. Tagged samples stay inside the app rather than in a regular sampler.
