AudioShare

What it does

A file manager for audio on iPhone and iPad. It stores sound files, MIDI files, zips and video in folders, plays them back, and converts between wav, aiff, caf and m4a with a choice of sample rate, bit depth and mono or stereo. Editing runs to normalize, trim and fade, each save making a copy rather than overwriting. Files go out through the share sheet, Dropbox, email, or a Wi-Fi drive that serves the library to a browser on another computer. There is also a recorder, and AUM writes its recordings straight into it.

In the demo

Jade works from her own cluttered library, pulling the audio out of a video file, trimming dead air off the front of a song, sending a track to a mastering app and back, and building a live backing-track setlist by adding files into AUM from a long press.

Worth knowing

There is no drag and drop, and it cannot be mounted as a folder in Logic’s browser, so files reach Logic through the share sheet. Deleted files sit in a trash folder until it is emptied. No Mac version.
