Fields

What it does

A standalone field recorder and editor for iPhone and iPad. It records from the built in mic or a connected interface at up to 32 bit in wav, aiff or flac, with input monitoring, record gain and a pre-roll buffer of up to 20 seconds. Each take carries a photo, written notes and a GPS location, and takes group into playlists. Editing covers crop, fades, reverse, gain, normalize, filters, pitch and speed, trim silence and noise reduction, with storage set to iCloud or local.

In the demo

Jade takes it out with a DJI mic, recording screams in a pagoda, a babbling brook and traffic over a bridge, photographing each spot as she goes. Back on the iPad she appends to a take, trims the silence out of a spoken clip, and generates a shareable waveform video.

Worth knowing

The AUv3 effect loading she shows inside the editor comes from a beta build rather than the released version, and several plugins fail to load. There is no plugin version of the recorder itself.
