MagicBlur

What it does

A spectral effect that smears audio over time, with its own blur time for every part of the frequency range. Points are drawn onto a spectrum running from 50 Hz to 20 kHz and set in note divisions, regular, dotted or triplet, up to a bar long. Four colour-coded channels each hold a drawing and blend through an XY pad. Invert, shift and skew have stereo spreads, an envelope leans the blur toward decay or attack, and eight assignable LFOs, custom shapes included, move any of it. Three algorithms tune the engine for percussive, mixed or melodic sources.

In the demo

Jade draws curves from scratch on an upright piano, bringing in one channel at a time and sliding the XY pad between them, then copies a shape across, saves a preset and works through the middle controls. She moves to drums on the percussive algorithm and finishes by running her own voice through it.

Worth knowing

This is sound design rather than a mix effect, and many presets go deliberately strange. GSDSP sells a desktop edition separately from its own site. MagicPitch, from the same demo, shares this interface.
