EG Pulse

What it does

A drum machine and sampler built around sixteen pads. Acoustic, electronic and hip hop kits come loaded, and any pad can be reassigned from an edit screen or filled by dragging a WAV in from the Files app, including files far longer than a one shot. Each sample gets retrigger, timing and pitch settings plus slice, trim, normalize and reverse. A grid sequencer holds patterns, the mixer gives every instrument level, pan and a choke, and a song maker chains them. It runs standalone or as an AUv3.

In the demo

The episode is really about a USB pad controller, and this is the app Jade drives with it, so it gets the back half of the show. She maps a kit one pad at a time, tours the sequencer and mixer, drags in her own drum samples and then a whole song, and plays it from the pads in GarageBand.

Worth knowing

The effects and song sections are passed over quickly, so this is a tour rather than a walkthrough. Jade reaches for it to get around the drum sounds and sampling in GarageBand.
