DigiStix 2

What it does

A pad-based drum instrument running as an AUv3 or standalone. Sixteen pads sit across four banks, A to D, so a kit holds 64 pads, and each pad takes up to five sample layers with their own level, tuning and velocity handling, plus round robin and random selection. The factory list runs from acoustic and alt rock through hip hop, house, industrial and EDM, alongside General MIDI kits laid out for electronic drum kits. Per pad there is pan, reverb and delay send, sample length and an editor.

In the demo

Jade plays it from an Alesis Nitro Mesh electronic kit, showing why the GM kits map straight across while the default kits need a trip through MIDI learn. She assembles a large kit by importing one bank at a time from several kits, layers samples on a single pad, and routes the spare output buses out in AUM to put Blackhole and a delay on the sends.

Worth knowing

Jade was unwell filming and says an hour cannot cover everything here. Pattern work happens in a controller view of velocity, pitch and probability lanes rather than an arrangement.
