Diffuse

What it does

A hybrid of an analog modelled delay and an early digital reverb, with one control that morphs between them. Diffusion sets how far echoes smear into a reverb tail, size scales the space, and feedback runs into a zone where it starts to self oscillate. Delay time can sync or run free in milliseconds, with modes including ping pong, wobble, phaser, gallop, ellipse and oval. Rectify adds grain, width, spread and modulation shape the stereo image, and damping and a ducking pump control keep the tail out of the way.

In the demo

Jade runs a Pianoteq motif through it in AUM and moves one control at a time, taking diffusion to zero for a bare delay and then over the threshold where the display turns yellow. She ends with a long pass through the factory presets on the same piano part.

Worth knowing

Double tapping any knob returns it to default, which matters because feedback and diffusion get unruly fast. A Mac and Windows version is sold separately on the developer’s own site.
