CRASH

What it does

A drum sample pack aimed at alternative rock, from Mobile Music Pro with sound designer Beli Bat. It is a zip download rather than an app, holding 256 one shots and 16 drum loops as WAV, Apple Loops and REX files, plus MIDI versions of the beats. Every loop also comes split three ways, the full loop, the kick and snare, and the hats and percussion, so each layer can be processed on its own. Kits are included for Koala, Gadget, FAC Drumkit, EG Pulse, DigiStix, Cubasis 3, BeatMaker 3, BeatHawk and NanoStudio 2.

In the demo

Jade loads a Koala kit by tapping it in the Files app, imports a MiniSampler preset into Cubasis 3, and copies kits into DigiStix and NanoStudio 2. She shows why WAV files will not drag into GarageBand while Apple Loops will, then chops one loop up and builds a heavy track around it.

Worth knowing

It is sold on its own from the developer’s store, not as an in-app purchase inside a host, so anything that loads samples can use it, on Mac and PC as well as iOS. The store lists it as Pro Drum Pack 01.
