Brusfri

What it does

A noise reduction AUv3 built around one gesture. Hold the ear button for about a second while only the unwanted noise is playing, and Brusfri learns that noise and subtracts it from everything after. Controls either side of the ear adjust how hard the reduction works, and a small EQ section with high pass frequency, low and high edge and mix puts back what the processing took from the wanted signal. A narrated example file walks through it on first launch.

In the demo

Jade clears a hum off a guitar channel and birdsong out of an old voice memo, then stacks a desk fan, an open window onto traffic and a loud air conditioner against a condenser microphone and learns all of it away in one hold. She also tries it on amp feedback, and adds it to a GarageBand recording made on her iPhone.

Worth knowing

The more it removes, the more it thins the voice underneath, so Jade works the EQ afterwards to bring brightness back. It needs a patch of noise on its own to learn from, and she says it is light enough on CPU to run several instances.
