BeatSurfing 2

What it does

A drum instrument you play by dragging a finger across blocks laid out on a canvas, called a map. Each block is an engine rather than a pad, so a snare maker builds its own hits while a sampler block plays sounds you import, and the way your finger crosses the shape decides what sounds. Blocks unlock for moving, resizing and stretching, sit on coloured layers over a background image, and can be wired to each other so one changes another’s sample.

In the demo

Jade opens a busy map she had already built, then starts a blank one and drags instruments in one at a time, covering quantization per block, sample folder import and the editor for trimming. She wires a Context block to several instruments, and records a stereo bounce from the transport.

Worth knowing

It is iPad only, there was no AUv3 at the time of the demo, and Jade treats the paid unlock as buying into a roadmap rather than a finished app.
