Auria Pro: MIDI

What it does

The MIDI side of the same single iPad purchase this series covers. Any track can be MIDI, with its own channel strip, a MIDI control page and a piano roll. Sounds come from the Lyra sample player, FabFilter Twin2 and One, AUv3 instruments or Inter-App Audio. The control page holds velocity shift and compression, randomized length and velocity, MIDI delay, transpose and legato.

In the demo

Jade builds from the eight MIDI track template, downloads the free Lyra instruments and drum loops from the Auria store, and plays a piano part in off the on-screen keyboard. She records a Scaler 3 progression, swaps Pianoteq in underneath it, captures a Pop Drummer beat as MIDI by turning on Send Notes, then quantizes, humanizes and saves a groove off the result.

Worth knowing

AUv3 MIDI effects carrying no sound engine, such as ChordBud, Harmony Bloom and WayMaker, do not appear in the instrument list, so only plugins with an engine of their own load. Jade asks the developers on camera for a separate MIDI effect slot.
