AUMediaPlayer

What it does

A plain media player that loads a video, a track from the music library or a file from the Files app, then runs up to four AUv3 effects over it. The chain can be reordered and each slot bypassed. Third party AUv3 effects and Apple’s own built-in Audio Units both appear in the picker. The result mixes down to an audio file, or back to a movie carrying the processed sound, which is also how audio gets split off a video.

In the demo

Jade masters a mix by stacking a compressor, saturation, delay and stereo widening on it, then exports to AudioShare. She screen records a GarageBand session on the iPad, brings that video in, and treats its audio before saving the movie, which replaces lining the two up in a separate editor.

Worth knowing

The plugin picker is a small scroll wheel in no particular order, and some plugins never appear in it, Jade’s FabFilter ones among them. Four slots is the ceiling, so it covers only part of what a full host does. It was called AU Audio Player before this update.
