Waverley XL

What it does

A sampled instrument that loads only as an AUv3, built from 30 instruments recorded at much larger sample sizes than Rob Jackson’s MoodUnits, which it sits alongside rather than replaces. Each instrument carries four parameter sets labelled A to D, 120 patches in total, with 16 note polyphony. Everything lives on one screen: a filter with attack, decay and amount, an LFO with rate and depth, an amp with attack, release and volume, pitch fine tuning and a tuner.

In the demo

Jade plays from an Arturia Keystep, mostly holding chords and single notes so the samples do the work, and steps across A to D on the same instrument to show how far the character moves. She runs all 30 instruments, with BlackHole reverb and later Altezza on the AUM channel colouring what you hear.

Worth knowing

The download is around 700 MB and Jade relays that more instruments were planned for updates, which would add to that. With no standalone app, a host such as AUM or GarageBand is required to play it.
