VHS Synth

What it does

A lo-fi instrument whose sounds are vintage synths recorded to VHS tape through a VCR and then resampled. Two layers each hold a sampled instrument with its own volume, semitone shift, detune, pan, cutoff, resonance and ADSR, mixed against each other from the main page. Around them sit a VCR tape block with depth, speed and noise, auto pan, tremolo, glide, a mono switch, reverb with a low cut, a vintage bit crush, a phaser, a tempo synced stereo delay, a heat distortion, a harmonic filter with its own envelope, and a dice button.

In the demo

Jade opens with a Grand Theft Auto Vice City theme she rebuilt from several instances in GarageBand, then works across the three pages in AUM on a bells patch. She runs the starter bank and the banks by guest sound designers, points out the video game references, and improvises in Loopy.

Worth knowing

Everything is sample based, so it does not behave like a subtractive synth. Since the demo the listing has moved to Audiobus, and it is now a free download with a subscription for premium features rather than the paid app Jade bought.
