Tuna

What it does

A free chromatic tuner that loads as an AUv3, built with extended-range instruments in mind: seven and eight string guitars, five string bass and low drop tunings where a general-purpose tuner can struggle to lock on. It sits in an effects chain ahead of an amp sim rather than needing its own routing.

In the demo

Jade drops it into a Logic Pro guitar chain, tunes a seven-string through it, then leaves it in place while she builds the rest of the tone with other Aurora DSP apps. She is candid that a tuner does not make for thrilling viewing.

Worth knowing

It does one job and has no metronome or extras, so anyone wanting a combined practice utility will need something broader. A desktop version is also free from Aurora DSP.
