Transcribe+

What it does

Changes the speed and pitch of an audio file independently, and separates a mix into stems. Pitch moves in semitones from a bar you drag while the track plays, speed from a second bar, both live. Splitting runs on the device into four parts, vocals, bass, drums and instruments, or into two as vocals and accompaniment, each stem with a mute button, and the whole split restores to the original mix. Also here are A and B loop points, a ten band EQ, mono fold, panning, and export of loops or unmuted stems. The store titles it Slow Down Music | Transcribe+.

In the demo

Jade loads a rough master from her DreadCircus album, drops it a semitone, spins the speed bar by hand like a record, then splits the track and solos the vocal. She drags two differently pitched copies into GarageBand to try building a harmony out of one vocal take.

Worth knowing

The free download plays only 45 seconds until an in-app purchase unlocks it, and the listing now carries subscriptions as well as one-off unlocks. Jade says the vocal stem comes out cleanest and that artifacts turn up on the rest.
