TONEX

What it does

TONEX plays machine-modelled captures of amps, cabinets and pedals through a chain of noise gate, compressor, amp, cabinet and reverb, with bass, mid and treble controls. Models come from the built-in collections or from ToneNet, where players upload their own captures. The iOS app runs standalone or as an AUv3.

In the demo

Jade loads it in AUM on an iPad and walks the chain block by block, auditions patches with the built-in playing examples and no guitar connected, filters by gain type and stars favourites. She then plugs a guitar in to play ToneNet captures, and opens the desktop software, which adds modulation and delay.

Worth knowing

The iOS app has no delay or modulation blocks and is not a librarian, so it cannot move captures onto a TONEX pedal. Capturing gear is a desktop job: iOS plays models, it does not make them. The download is free and the model collections are paid, with a desktop licence covering iOS. The launch demo goes further into tone shaping: swapping heads against cabs, moving the compressor before or after the amp, matching EQ band frequencies to the modelled hardware, and choosing mic type and placement.
