TETSUO

What it does

A percussion machine with no samples in it. One voice is a pitched body with noise dragged through a resonant filter, a bit crusher and a drive stage, plus a switch for high or low pass. A 16-slot sequencer adds and removes hits in a fixed order from a steps knob, skip steals hits at random, and mutate throws the pitch around. A 64-step strip holds up to eight sections, each storing a snapshot of the knobs rather than audio.

In the demo

Jade opens an AUM project with two instances already running, then clears it and builds one from scratch so each dial is heard on its own. She records sections in while the strip plays, resizes and deletes them, and finishes with it running next to WAIL with an LFO sent in.

Worth knowing

There are no presets inside the app, so state is saved with the host project. Levels and pitch move a long way fast, and Jade is explicit that chaos is the point, so anyone after a steady beat is in the wrong app.
