jAmp Percussive

What it does

A drum machine whose sounds are physically modelled rather than sampled, split into membrane voices for kicks, snares, toms and cowbell, and cymbal voices for hats, rides and crashes. Each voice exposes pitch, decay, filtering, overtones, noise and mallet hardness. The sequencer adds velocity, decay, pitch, flam and roll lanes, per track step lengths, and a generative block of mutate, vocab and solo dials that plays around whatever is programmed.

In the demo

Jade maps pads to her keyboard, builds a kick and a hat from scratch to show what the models do, then clears the sequencer entirely and drives the whole part from the mutate dial. She switches the solo dial through its drumming styles and ends on overwrite mode, which commits the generated parts to the track.

Worth knowing

The free download drops out for a second at intervals until the unlock is bought. Jade also hits a limit recording it into Logic, where the sequencer output does not arrive and she routes audio to a bus instead.
