Tako Kick

What it does

An eight-voice generative drum machine with synthesized kits, no samples. Each voice splits into a left and a right column so rhythm and timbre move apart: pattern density, steps, depth, attack and decay, accent and feel, tune and tone, plus two modulation sources you assign by tapping a destination. Dials along the top reshape all eight at once, with pitch, mute, solo, per pad volume and a shuffle. It arrives with kits but no patches, so you save your own, recalling rhythm, tuning, modulation, kit and mix together mid performance.

In the demo

Jade runs it in AUM, solos one voice and works every control on it before moving across the rest. She then tests on camera whether it sends MIDI out, finds a drum output and plays Super 606 from it.

Worth knowing

Controls read drag direction, up and down for one parameter, left and right for another, and the tap target for assigning modulation is small. Free with no in-app purchases. Nothing is laid out as a grid, so patterns get steered rather than programmed.
