What it does

A tape saturator modelled with a neural network trained on a 1971 tape machine rather than by circuit modelling. The drive knob carries that emulation, with auto gain holding the output steady as saturation rises. Wear adds wow, flutter and tape flanging, noise fades in only while signal is present, glue applies compression with no separate controls, and high and low shape aim saturation at either end of the spectrum. A model switch runs one tape machine or two, and input can be normal or hot.

In the demo

Jade puts it on piano, bass, drums, vocals and a full mix, moving from light warming to broken tape warble, and points out that the mix control also scales the wear effect rather than working alone.

Worth knowing

It is one effect with a handful of macros rather than a tape deck with transport controls, so anyone wanting detailed wow and flutter editing will find it simplified. A Mac and Windows version is sold by Baby Audio for $79.
