Symphonic Cello

What it does

A sampled cello pack for AudioModern’s SoundBox sampler, with 11 playable presets and 6 arpeggiation presets. The playable side covers bowed stabs, sustains at more than one weight, pizzicato, sordino, spiccato and tremolo, and the arpeggiation presets generate a part from a held note. Every preset stacks four samples with different harmonic content, and SoundBox’s effect slots can be dropped onto one column so they treat a single layer.

In the demo

Jade plays each preset in turn from a KeyStep, first as stabs and then in chords, and lets the arpeggiation presets run under one note. She solos the four layers of a sustain to show what each contributes, and adds a reverb to a single column to make the point about per layer effects.

Worth knowing

It runs inside SoundBox, a free iPad download that unlocks its editing features only once one of its own in-app packs is bought. Jade covers it alongside Somara from the same developer in the same video.
