SoundBox

What it does

A sampler engine that hosts sound packs instead of one fixed library. Each preset layers up to four sample slots with start and end points, loop and ping-pong settings, fades, velocity layers and multisamples per key. Around that sit ADSR, glide, transpose, an eleven-slot effects rack and four modulation sources including a drawn LFO. Packs come from AudioModern and third parties, and your own samples can be imported.

In the demo

Jade runs it in AUM alongside Scaler, then rebuilds a preset in standalone: importing the free Mechania pack, creating an empty user pack, editing loop points, assigning modulation to a reverb mix.

Worth knowing

The download is free but saving, importing and pack creation stay locked until you buy a pack. Packs run from 460 MB to 4 GB, so storage matters. Update 1.05 fixed FLAC loading and the missing-samples bug on external storage, added FLAC export and pack locking, MIDI over Bluetooth and program change, and cut CPU use. Later updates brought tempo-synced time stretching, formant modes, MPE assignment of strike, lift, bend, pressure or timbre, and in 1.2 a free chords page with scale, chord type, octave, inversion and strum.
