Somara

What it does

An ambient soundscape pack for AudioModern’s SoundBox sampler. It holds two evolving soundscapes, each supplied twice, once at standard tuning and once tuned to 432 Hz, so four presets appear in the browser. Each preset stacks four samples, which is what keeps a single held note moving: one patch sustains and drifts, the other decays with a noise tail underneath it.

In the demo

Jade imports the pack through SoundBox’s User Sounds, plays both soundscapes from a KeyStep and holds a note while switching to the 432 Hz version so the difference is audible. She then mutes the four layers one at a time to expose each sample, and swaps one out for a sample from another pack.

Worth knowing

Two soundscapes is a small pack, and Jade answers the complaint that there are only two sounds by pointing at what the layers do rather than the count. SoundBox is free to download, but one of its own in-app packs has to be bought before editing unlocks.
