Scaler EQ

What it does

A six-band parametric EQ that works in the usual peak, shelf and cut shapes, or switches a band to a harmonic mode where its boost and cut land on the notes of a chosen scale. A key detector sets that scale, which can also differ per band or be automated through three scale switches. Each band has its own compressor and mid, side or stereo placement, and the output adds stereo width, a mono frequency and limiters.

In the demo

Jade works in Logic on a full arrangement, detecting the key, then raising in-scale frequencies on a pad and cutting the out-of-scale ones. She automates a band, side chains one to the drums, and finishes on mastering presets over a finished song.

Worth knowing

The harmonic modes assume the material has a settled key, so heavily chromatic or atonal tracks get less from them. A desktop version for Mac and Windows is sold separately through Plugin Boutique and the Scaler site.
