Punchline Drum Machine

What it does

A step sequencer and drum machine with a fixed row of kit pieces: kick, snare, closed and open hats, cymbals, toms and a cowbell slot. Each piece has its own pitch, length, filter and level, and steps are tapped in or drawn with a finger while the write button is armed. A function button turns the whole face into a second layer for clearing, muting, loading kits and setting step count and probability, and patterns chain into longer sequences.

In the demo

Jade writes a pattern from scratch, chains patterns by holding the pattern key, then exports the set as a file and imports it back. She builds a custom kit on the developer’s website by dragging her own metal samples onto the page and downloading the result, and rides the effects layer live with the latch on.

Worth knowing

It is iPhone and iPad only, and it does not send MIDI out to other apps, though it will take MIDI in. Jade hit a buzzing artifact that cleared when she changed the sample rate.
