Opacity

What it does

A cinematic guitar library for SoundBox, AudioModern’s free sampler on iPad and desktop, played by Justin Hodges and Terre Grande. It holds 14 complete scoring kits, each locked to a key with a suggested tempo and spread across four octave zones: chords, phrases, sequences and textures. Effects come set on the presets, and any layer can be swapped for a sample from another pack.

In the demo

Jade plays two pieces she built with the pack in Helium, then works through the kits from a keyboard, taking each zone in turn. She opens the sampler to reverse a single sample inside a preset, and drops a soprano vocal from another pack under the guitars to show layers mixing across libraries.

Worth knowing

Buying this pack inside SoundBox also unlocks the platform’s editing, sample import and pack building. Everything is tied to a key and a tempo, which suits scoring more than free playing. The same episode covers the SoundBox 1.1.0 update, which is written up on the SoundBox entry.
