MoodUnits

What it does

A sampled instrument that grows by sound pack. The app itself is a small purchase, then each pack is added as a separate cheap or free in-app download, covering strings, pianos, fuzz and clean guitars, basses, pads and saw waves. It runs light on CPU, which suits stacking several instances, and each preset has its own controls alongside the built-in effects.

In the demo

Jade plays through pack after pack from an Arturia Keystep, holding simple chords so the samples speak rather than the playing. She runs the whole library she has accumulated, pointing out the ringing detail on held guitar notes and the slide variations inside the string presets.

Worth knowing

The standalone app is mostly a pack manager, so a host is needed to actually play it. Jade has BlackHole reverb on the AUM channel throughout, which colours everything you hear.
