Mini Orchestra

What it does

A sample-playback instrument that lays a whole orchestra across one screen, with separate sections for cellos and contrabass, bass brass, French horns, woodwinds, treble brass, violins and violas, choir, glockenspiel and percussion. Each section carries its own volume, pan, attack, release and velocity window, so playing harder folds extra sections into the sound. A reverb, a global tuning page, per-part CC assignment and three mute groups sit alongside.

In the demo

Jade plays each section on its own from a hardware keyboard before stacking them, and shows the glockenspiel and percussion set above a high minimum velocity so they only land on the loud hits. She then opens a Pete Johns song in GarageBand and writes string, horn and choir parts around it across several instances.

Worth knowing

The whole percussion section is one drum sample mapped across a single octave, and Jade works on iPad throughout. Anyone after articulation switching or separately sold section libraries is shopping in a different class.
