What it does

Pitch detection that turns a guitar into a MIDI controller. A fast Fourier transform with noise filtering and harmonic analysis reads the note, then drives onboard sound fonts or sends MIDI out across 16 channels, and the same engine works as a quick tuner. A tone scope plots the harmonic series so the effect of pickup position is visible on screen. It also writes tablature, played in live or entered by hand, from three to eight strings in any tuning, and exports as MIDI, MusicXML or PDF.

In the demo

Jade plays her LTD through it as a standalone and as an AUv3 in AUM, running the onboard pianos, basses, drums and a 12 string, then splits the output to Animoog and iSymphonic on separate MIDI channels for live switching. She records a run into the tab editor, removes a wrong note, collapses notes into a chord, and exports the file into GarageBand.

Worth knowing

There is latency, as with any pitch to MIDI conversion, so playing style has to adapt. High tracking identifies notes more accurately but more slowly, low tracking is faster and can glitch.
