MIDI Guitar

What it does

Transcribes guitar audio into MIDI in real time and plays it through its own sounds or any AUv3 instrument on the device. One screen holds the audio device, level and velocity, articulation, MIDI controls, an instrument slot, an effects rack and a mix between the tracked sound and the dry guitar. Tracking switches between polyphonic and monophonic, tuning is adjustable in the app, and a transposer shifts by octave or semitone. An external MIDI output mode sends notes to another app rather than sounding them. The store now titles it simply MIDI Guitar; the demo calls it MIDI Guitar 2.

In the demo

Jade plays electric, acoustic and bass guitars through it, hosts iSymphonic and Ravenscroft, adds AUv3 reverb, then switches to external MIDI output and plays GarageBand’s own instruments from the strings, recording MIDI that keeps its note lengths.

Worth knowing

The download is free, with MIDI output and AudioUnit hosting sold as separate in-app purchases. The plugin list finds AUv3 only, no Inter-App Audio. Jade says the tracking is not perfect and reads her acoustic more reliably than her electric.
