Magic Switch

What it does

A chorus with one switch to turn it on and a mix slider to set how much of it you hear. Nothing else is adjustable. The voicing is drawn loosely from the Juno-60 analog chorus, dark and detuned, aimed at adding width to guitars, keys and anything else it is dropped on. It is an AUv3 port of a Baby Audio desktop plugin and a very small download. It arrived with Magic Dice, the same developer’s effects randomizer, in the same free release.

In the demo

Jade runs it on electric guitar, first clean through an amp and noise suppressor, then into a distorted Rhino chain behind a noise gate. She works the mix from half up to full so the width is audible, tries it on a clean Ravenscroft piano where she calls the result drunken, and later puts it into her weekly live AUM guitar rig in place of FAC Chorus.

Worth knowing

There are no rate, depth or width controls, so the character is fixed and the only decision is how much to blend in. Anyone who needs to shape a chorus to a particular track will want something with knobs.
