Magic Dice

What it does

An effects randomizer with one dice button. Each press generates a new wet configuration drawn from the echo, delay, reverb and modulation engines in Baby Audio’s Spaced Out, and a mix slider blends the result against the dry signal. There is nothing else to set, but any roll worth keeping can be saved as a preset, so a lucky result is not lost on the next press. It is an AUv3 port of desktop work and a very small download. It arrived with Magic Switch, a one button chorus, in the same free release.

In the demo

Jade rolls it on electric guitar, on a clean piano and over a Euclidean sequencer project in AUM, holding single notes so each configuration is audible on its own. Reverse tails, ping pong delays and distant reverbs all appear. She saves a roll from the host, since the plugin’s own preset slot would not take it.

Worth knowing

You cannot dial in a particular effect, only roll again, which fits sketching and texture hunting rather than any job where you need to return to an exact setting. Several rolls sat awkwardly on the clean piano.
