Lumen 2

What it does

The second Lumen volume for SoundBox, AudioModern’s free sampler, and a separate purchase from the first. The presets are soundscape instruments aimed at ambient work, film scoring and meditation, each built from layers sourced from vintage synths with LFOs running underneath, so a held note keeps shifting rather than settling. Kompose Audio also sells it bundled with Lumen 1 for $20.

In the demo

Jade imports the pack from an external drive and plays every preset from the on-screen keyboard, holding notes and chords so the evolving layers have time to move, and pointing at the layer meters where the LFO motion is visible. She calls out the low end on Whisperella, then puts the presets under a Drone Lab Pro drone with Playbeat 4 running drums to show how they sit in a track.

Worth knowing

These are pads and beds, so anyone wanting something that speaks on attack will not find it here. SoundBox is free to download, but its editing, effects and modulation pages unlock only once one of AudioModern’s own in-app packs is bought.
