Lo-Fi Tape

What it does

A sample based keyboard built from sounds recorded to tape, running standalone or as an AUv3. The description credits a Marantz PMD430 and a Sony TC-900A for the sampling, and the noise stays in: soft pianos, electric bells, toy piano, flutes, brass, accordion and choirs, all worn. One screen holds the lot. A reverb with room, studio, chamber, hall and cathedral settings and a room size that runs to infinity, low and high pass filters, a flanger and a chorus with matching frequency, depth, feedback and mix knobs, attack and release, and separate output and sample volumes. Presets can be starred, reordered, saved and imported, and any knob can be mapped by MIDI learn.

In the demo

Jade works through the factory presets from a hardware keyboard, mostly letting them ring, swinging the reverb to infinity and pulling the filters down to dirty them further. She runs it standalone, then in GarageBand, then in AUM with BlackHole added.

Worth knowing

The GarageBand view drops the on-screen keys. In AUM it made no sound at all until Jade selected a preset. A preset expansion is sold inside the app and has its own entry here.
