KORG Gadget 3

What it does

KORG’s groovebox holds a library of small synths and drum machines named after cities, each dropped onto its own track and sequenced into sections that play in order. Version 3 sorts the gadget browser into categories, adds a genre select that loads a starter project, a per-track loop hold, metronome volume, a full-screen effects page, and two gadgets sold as in-app purchases: Sydney, a loop sampler, and Santa Ana, a rhythm guitar machine.

In the demo

Jade loads a genre template and swaps its instruments, works through Sydney’s pad editing, loop points and lo-fi section, and takes Santa Ana through its strum patterns, start and loop points, amps and auto wah. She then opens the gadgets as AUv3 plugins in AUM, EG Nodes, Logic Pro and Cubasis.

Worth knowing

Not every gadget runs as an AUv3, and Jade reads out the ones that do not. Some gadgets are bought inside the app and others only by buying a separate KORG app such as Korg Module or iM1, an arrangement she describes as confusing.
