Groove Rider 2

What it does

A groovebox that also works as a DAW. A pattern holds 16 parts, each part holds three layers, and a layer can be the built-in synth, a sampler, a wavetable, a SoundFont, a drum rack, JimAudio’s own Pure Acid or Poison engines, or any AUv3 instrument or effect. Clips launch like a grid or get dropped into a linear song mode, with a piano roll, quantize, automation lanes, a mixer and rendering to file. Holding shift gives fine control on any knob, multi-selects notes, clips, mutes and solos, and starts MIDI learn on a double tap. Pattern tempo runs up to 999 BPM.

In the demo

Jade starts from an empty pattern and builds one up layer by layer, showing each engine in turn. She records Scaler into a clip with print MIDI, moves clips into song mode, then draws and records filter and chorus automation.

Worth knowing

It runs standalone rather than as an AUv3, though it loads into a host as Inter-App Audio. There was no manual at launch, so Jade works some of it out on camera, and JimAudio published one soon after. It samples but does not record audio tracks.
