BAM

What it does

A clip-based groovebox that is also an AUv3 host. Each of its sixteen channels takes one engine, either a sampler, a twin oscillator, a drum synth, a single kick, snare, clap, tom or hat voice, or a plugin loaded from elsewhere, plus two effect slots. Clips are drawn on a step grid with three pencil types and arranged in a scene matrix, where follow actions move playback on after a set number of bars. Any knob can be automated by hitting learn, and a shared sample pool feeds every sampler at once.

In the demo

Jade starts from an empty project and builds up a kick, hats, a snare and congas, automating one sampler across the pool so it cycles through the conga hits. She then loads BAM into AUM as an AUv3 with multibus instances, and works through the bus sends and side-chain compression.

Worth knowing

AUv3 plugins saved in a project do not load when BAM itself is opened as a plugin. A desktop version for Mac and Windows is sold separately by Imaginando.
