Jazz Drummer

What it does

An improvising jazz drummer with three players, Jo, Max and Roy, whose choice changes how jams and fills are played. Pattern banks cover jazz, 3/4, straight eights, latin jazz and odd times, where patterns run in five and seven beats to the bar. Kits mix part by part, so a hi-hat slot can be filled with another kick or ride, and the weight of each hit is editable. Fill spacing, randomization, precision and complexity are dials. A mixer with per-part panning sits behind, alongside a compressor and gate, EQ, delay and reverb, and a song mode chains parts into an arrangement.

In the demo

Jade first shows how little GarageBand offers in 3/4, where the loop library thins out and its own virtual drummer has few options, then records Jazz Drummer into a 3/4 project over Inter-App Audio. She also exports a pattern as an eight track stem mix with the app’s panning already applied.

Worth knowing

The extra drum kits behind the plus button are separate purchases. The demo runs it as Inter-App Audio rather than as a plugin.
