Jam Synth

What it does

A guitar to synth converter that listens to an audio input and plays oscillators from what it hears. Four oscillators on iPad and three on iPhone, eight wave shapes each, with detune, a filter, a dynamics switch, sensitivity, volume and an octave setting per oscillator. A gate, compressor and ADSR sit across the top. The included effects page holds an LFO, a stereo delay, a 3D chorus and a tuner, and a second page of effects is sold separately. MIDI settings cover note-on sensitivity, pitch bend range and sending the tracked signal out as MIDI.

In the demo

Jade plugs a guitar into an interface and runs it in AUM, then standalone after the audio drops out. She shows it holding string bends and slides along the neck, and later sends her voice through it instead, where it picks up vibrato.

Worth knowing

It is Inter-App Audio only rather than AUv3, and it is monophonic, so chords do not track and playing has to become single notes. Jade says it is an old app that has not been updated, and that the paid effects are optional.
