iFretless Brass

What it does

A brass instrument played on strings laid out like a guitar neck, with lighter strings standing in for a keyboard’s white keys and darker ones for the black keys. Pressure on each string sets volume and velocity. The list covers trombone, tuba, trumpet, muted and mellow trumpets, French horn, flugelhorn, euphonium, synth horns and three preset brass bands. A primary instrument can be joined by two more for a three-piece section, either blended so all three sound on one note or arranged so each string plays a different instrument. Reverb size, EQ, velocity ranges, transposition, tuning system, fret count and string count sit in the settings.

In the demo

Jade plays it in AUM with a small BlackHole room behind it, running through every instrument and switching the brass bands between blend and arranged so the difference is audible. She then drives Ravenscroft and SynthMaster One from it as a MIDI controller.

Worth knowing

It is built around the touchscreen, so an external keyboard triggers one string at a time and the stacked chords she plays with fingers are not available that way.
