Riffler

What it does

Generates metal guitar riffs and plays them through its own chugging tones, with feel controls for melody, rhythm, range, gaps, motif and runs, plus key, scale, tuning and amp. Presets run from blues and funk to progressive and death metal, including prog metal banks from Jordan Rudess, and what it writes is copyright free. Notes can be edited for bends, vibrato and palm mutes, padlocks hold part of a riff while Create rewrites the rest, and riffs export as MIDI or audio.

In the demo

This episode covers the rebuild that brought the redesigned interface and AUv3 hosting. Jade works through the preset categories, tunings and progressions, pulls the chords out of a riff to leave a bass line, then runs it in AUM with the amps off and a pedal app in the chain. She closes by building a track in GarageBand.

Worth knowing

Later updates added endless mode, which rewrites the riff at each bar end, and a shared progression where one instance is master and the rest copy its scale. It also shares preset pairs with Riffler Flow, a separate purchase covering clean, pop and synth styles. Riffler is not on Mac.
