Heavy Brass

What it does

A sampled brass instrument built from trumpet, trombone and saxophone. It holds 16 parts, each with its own sound, volume, octave and MIDI channel, so a section can be stacked onto one channel or spread across 16 tracks in a host. Alongside four preset brass sections and three solo instruments there are playing articulations: crescendos, growls, doiks, shakers, staccatos and falls, plus switch and combi sounds that blend articulations together.

In the demo

Jade opens it through Music Studio over Inter-App Audio and stacks a five-part brass section in about twenty minutes, checking each part back in Music Studio as she adds it. She then holds single notes at different points up and down a key to show how finger position changes velocity, works through the articulation buttons, tries the round robin sounds, and saves the section as a preset.

Worth knowing

One payment covers every sound, with no instrument packs to buy afterwards, unlike the same developer’s iSymphonic Orchestra. The switch and combi blends cannot be edited. The store lists it for iPad only.
